The exhibition ”Abaca Sheets” is comprised of nine large
walls of perspex and handmade paper. The basic material
of the paper sheets is banana palm fber. The surfaces and
colouring of these sheets change character, resembling eroded
surfaces of the earth, foating in space.
The space in which they are exhibited is delineated and
then lifted up, mirroring the action of creating a sheet of
handmade paper.
The transparency of the paper sheet is refracted by the light,
which gives the space a foating, dream-like character. A new
concept of the term ”wall” has been achieved with the way
of hanging the paper sheets.
One can imagine them used in spaces that need partitioning,
without interfering with the lighting, without “carving up” the
light.
